Rainbow Tallit

My father-in-law’s shul is fairly conservative (with a small “c”). Just about every tallit there is white with black stripes, white stripes or blue stripes, but there is one rainbow tallit. It’s worn by someone who sits by the door and always flashes everyone a big smile as they step in.

Rainbow Tallit: One in Every Shul

I have a feeling it’s like that in many congregations: a single rainbow tallit in the house, typically worn by someone who is particularly outgoing and friendly. If that fits your description, read on about the various rainbow tallits available.

The most famous rainbow-stripe tallit is the Bnei Or Tallit, which has a whole legend behind its origins. There is also a blue version of the Bnei Or, with a medley of blue, purple, aqua and red stripes.

Gabrieli has a Rainbow Tallit as well as a popular tallit called the Joseph’s Coat Tallit. It’s woven by hand using thick wool yarn that gives it a lot of texture. We carry the Joseph’s Coat Tallit in four different base colors: black, blue, gray and white.

We are also able to tie techelet tzitzit on any rainbow tallit we sell. We get many orders for Bnei Ohr and other rainbow tallit models with techelet tzitzit. Personally, I find it surprising that more of my customers who opt for techelet tzitzit don’t go with the Bnei Ohr Blue Medley, since every other rainbow tallit has very little blue in the striping.
